Early evidence points to its use as far back as the Nara period (710-794 AD), where it was known as "tsutsumi-nuno" and used to wrap precious imperial treasures. In 1897, Miyai Furoshiki, originally Miyai Dennosuke Shoten, began its journey in the heart of Japan's textile industry.
