Nakazato Tarouemon

For 430 years and across 14 generations, the Nakazato family has stood at the center of Karatsu ware, one of the most revered traditions in Japanese tea ceramics. The kiln's modern identity was shaped by the 12th generation Nakazato Muan, designated a Living National Treasure in 1976 for recovering lost ko-Karatsu techniques from excavated sherds. The 14th Tarouemon continues that practice today from the same kiln in Saga Prefecture.
